This central section of the North Front is modelled. The left-hand bay shown is replicated on both the left and right hand sides of the building forming a total of seven large studio rooms. The art school is still in use today. It is a great work showing originality and one of Europe’s buildings in the "modern style". Various devices were repeatedly used by Mackintosh in the building – among them are the Japanese shield designs on the front fence and a projecting ladder spikes from which the window cleaners worked. The building is meticulously detailed. Form and function combine to produce a building which has adapted a centuries use.
